Lessons Learned Along The Way
(joint meeting with GBR SHRM)
Thursday, November 19, 2009
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
This humorous presentation reminds us that we continually have opportunities to learn from our students, our acquaintances, and -- even more importantly -- from our mistakes. From problems at the podium to attendees with attitude and buzzwords run amok, this discussion gives us a chance to laugh at the past year's embarrassing moments together and build on those experiences for a new year of workplace adventures.
Christee Gabour Atwood found her way into the world of training the way of lot of folks in our profession did – the scenic route.
She started with a background as a radio and television host, moved into positions as a newspaper editor and magazine columnist, then a Universal Studios tour guide, and even tried a stint as a stand up-comic. She was so good at comedy that she swiftly left that profession and found herself in association management, working as an executive of trade and professional associations. The one common thread in what she calls her “career-induced A.D.D.” was the desire to communicate knowledge.
And that’s what led Christee to become a learning professional.
Christee is author of 5 training books for ASTD Press: Succession Planning Basics, Presentation Skills Training, Manager Skills Training, Knowledge Management Basics, and the upcoming Ultimate Business Skills: Training the Fundamentals. Her humorous books have included Journal of a Midlife Crisis, Three Feet Under, and the upcoming In Celebration of Elastic Waistbands.
Please note: due to the need to notify the banquet facility of an accurate meal count, this meeting requires that RSVPs be received no later than 11 AM on Monday November 16th. Walk ins cannot be accomodated.
The Baton Rouge Chapter of ASTD provides approximately 100 members with a forum for the exchange of professional development opportunities and resources as they strive to improve workplace learning and performance. Our members include workforce development, performance improvement, and human resources professionals from corporate, academic, and community entities across the Greater Baton Rouge metropolitan area.
